Taarradhin is a Ren'Py visual novel. As such, it is available for Windows, Mac (requires 64-bit Intel Macintosh running OS X 10.6 or later), and Linux.
You don't need a credit card to download the game. We decided to use Gumroad again mostly for the nice feature of being able to contact people who downloaded the game (for updates, bug fixes, etc). As with Nachtigal, however, you can download the game for free. All you have to do is put in your email address (Gumroad sends you a link to the game as well so you don't lose it), enter in a $0 amount, and then press Give. This will take you straight to the next page where you can press Download. If you would like to donate some money, any amount would be much appreciated.
Please also consider updating your graphic card drivers before playing Taarradhin. If you're having display problems, please check out this help page in the Ren'Py documentation.
Taarradhin is a visual novel done by Cyanide Tea for NaNoRenO 2014. As usual, all writing/programming was done by Lorelei while all of the art and UI design was done by Auro-Cyanide. Auro also came up with the story and characters this time around. The music is all stock music by Pierrot Lunaire. Special thanks to Kitty for beta testing!

I wanted to quickly finish this up because I actually have some other things I need to be doing. And so I’ve finished this picture of Bartimaeus, both in ancient and modern clothing, plus a gif of the process auro-cyanide.tumblr.com/post/9…
I’ve been reading Jonathan Stroud’s new books as well, Lockwood and Co. The first one was pretty good and I’m looking forward to reading the second!
Finished painting of Bartimaeus and a GIF of the process. I think I need to do more experimentation with colours, I haven’t been happy with them recently.
Anyway, I’ve been re-reading the trilogy recently and man I have so many feelings over these books. They still remain in my favourites. I’ve never really been sure what to do with his hair when he is in this form? I usually don’t imagine very clearly when I read that’s for sure.
Tumblr version can be found here with GIF of process auro-cyanide.tumblr.com/post/9…
First up I’m going to apologise for my sense of humour… i’m not great with jokes… ahem.
Anyway, I remember seeing a bunch of comments referencing the ‘Breast Hat’ from HTTYD after Valka’s reveal because obviously there was an issue with proportions there. I know in the original film it would have been based on Nico Marlet’s original sketches of Valhallarama, but I thought I would do something to explain it now that Valka is in the picture instead.
Stoick inherited his terrible taste in gifts. I’m sure we all have those relatives that give us, ah, interesting articles of fashion as presents. Last Christmas my aunt gave me a pair of size 11 rainbow cowboy slash rain boots. I’ve been a size 6 since I was like 14. I’m still not sure what to do with those.
I imagine that armour would have ‘accidentally’ and ‘tragically’ been damaged in a dragon attack when Valka arrived on Berk ‘unfortunately’ rendering it unwearable. Thus it was made into two helmets, one for Stoick and one for their future child.
This started off as a sketching exercise… which then turned into an inking exercise which then turned into a toning exercise which then turned into a detail exercise which then turned into a comic composition exercise AND NOW I HAVEN’T ACTUALLY GOTTEN ANY BETTER AT SKETCHING GDI
I was thinking of doing a short comic about Valka’s and Stoick’s wedding if anyone was interested… I guess I find these characters and their story really interesting because it’s so complex and something I really haven’t seen often.
I should actually go do real life stuff now being an adult and all.

Maiden Valka sketch! From before she was married. I have this idea for a short comic which I want to get done, but might not ever do, but this is part of my attempt.
I was trying to mimic the way Johane Matte does her comics because man she is awwwwwesome <3 Frankly this is the first thing I have done in a while that I’m pretty happy with. It’s the first thing I’ve inked in gods knows how long.
Okay, head canon time! Basically, I don’t think Valka is originally from Berk. It doesn’t really make sense given her opinions. That’s not the way cultures work. But if she came from the outside it would make more sense for her to be so at odds with what everyone else thought. Even Hiccup was apart of that culture until he had that encounter with Toothless. Before that he didn’t question if he should kill dragons or not.
It also makes sense socially speaking since Vikings often married for social benefit and given Stoick was a chief/chief to be, his marriage would be important and would have been used as a means to strengthen ties or dispel feuds. Also given how small Berk is, there would have been a limit on the number of marriageable people and it would have been beneficial to bring in fresh blood.
I imagine Valka came from somewhere with far less dragon presence and attacks. Sure she knew they were there but she had never seen anything like the ‘kill or be killed’ mentality on Berk. I would think her community either didn’t have anything the dragons wanted, or they weren’t as close to a nest as Berk is.
The vikings in HTTYD are obviously not very authentic, but I tried to include some details, like Valka wearing her hair out and kransen to symbolise her unmarried status.
